Foreword

This is a blog that I set up to record some of my experiences over five months of my life.  I will be traveling through Asia, Africa, South America and Antarctica.

My phone will be shut off while I'm gone.  If you need to reach me, I'm on What's App, or you can email me at [email protected]

Brunei

Brunei is a very quiet country, and even the owner of the B&B and a Manager at a restaurant said there really isn't too much going on. I'm taking a tour this afternoon and one tomorrow from the owner of the B&B, and booked a flight to leave a day early, on Monday.  This trip will give me time to plan ahead and start booking things in Africa.

The B&B is located outside of the city (Bandar) on top of a hill from the main road, and it's a 20 minute bus ride into the center of town.  I walked to dinner last night to the closest suburb, in the opposite direction of Bandar, and it took about 50 minutes each way. I needed the exercise though.

Leaving Bali...

This was a nice place to relax for a few days.  I tried unsuccessfully yesterday to book a flight to East Timor, but the website wouldn't process my credit card.  So I'm flying to Jakarta today and will either spend some time there or try for a flight to Brunei.  Here is the sunset from the other day.

The last stop was in some town with a rice field on a hill and a bunch of restaurants to grab a late lunch (chicken curry).

Monkey Mountain

The next stop was at Monkey Mountain.  There were monkeys everywhere, hundreds of them.  No fear of humans either.  If you bought bananas to feed them, they'd jump up on you to grab them.

The next stop was at a coffee and tea grower.  I'm sure you've already heard about Luwak coffee on TV but here is a link, which also explains why people started drinking it.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_Luwak).  That is one job I wouldn't want to have.  The coffee was good, and this is probably the cheapest place to try it. (US$4/cup).

The second stop was at Batuan Hindu Temple.  After a mandatory donation, someone ties a sarong onto you and then you walk across the street to the temple...

I took an all day tour yesterday to Ubud.  I booked through the hotel and was expecting to get put on a bus, but this guy named Parna took me around on a private tour in his minivan.  The first stop was to watch a traditional Balinese dance.

I'm staying at a hotel about 3/4 a mile from the beach in Seminyak.  There are tourists here but it's off season so not too crowded.  Once my photos upload to the cloud,  I'll post them.  The connection is a little better here than in Malaysia, but it still takes a while to upload things.
